Origins gift set - fab purchase!

I wandered into Harrods the other day in search of an Origins moisturiser with high SPF. I went for A Perfect World Age-defense with SPF 25, as I've used it before, it's just about the highest SPF I can tolerate with getting a nasty rash.

Now usually I come away from beauty counters having spent three times as much as I thought I'd spend. But not today. The lovely, if slightly overly made up Origins Lady (the most black eyeliner I've seen during the day time since a daytime Siousxie and the Banshees gig), showed me that currently you can buy A Perfect World as part of a gift set for only £1 more than it costs alone. So for £32 I got:

A Perfect World SPF 25 50ml
A Perfect World Antioxidant Cleanser 50ml (hubby loves this)
Clear Improvement Mask 50ml (again, Mr Beauty Cult is a fan)
A Perfect World Eye Treatment 5ml (ok sample size, but still it all helps)
And a cute little facial sponge, which I've not tried it yet.

Quite simple, the best beauty bargain I've come across in a long time.

There's more info on the Origins website, and the offer is not exclusive to Harrods, so get shopping!

A chance to meet Space NK's founder!

We all love Space NK. I never fail to get a little bit excited when I visit a store, and I know most of my readers share that feeling, so the chance to meet the founder is a great opportunity.

Nicky Kinnaird, founder of Space NK, is visiting the UK to make some rare public appearances at selected Space NK stores over the next few weeks....and what's better she'll help you make sure you're buying the very best products for you!

Appointments to meet Nicky need to be booked (contact your local store), and cost £60, but the price is redeemable against products in store. So if you’re heading out to buy beauty products anyway it's a no brainer, you'll be spending £60 on products that you can be sure are right for you.

Consultations with Nicky last for 15mins, and as an added bonus you’ll also get a 30min make-up lesson with a professional.

17th March - Loughton – 10-2pm
18th March - Kingston 10-2pm
23rd March - Glasgow - 10-2pm
24th March – Edinburgh, George St - 10-2pm
25th March - Cobham – 10-2pm
31st March – London, Northcote Rd – 10-2pm

What do I want for mothers day? Frontcover Rainbow Eyes

Mothers day presents aren't always up to much. I know, I know, it's the thought that counts. And yes, I AM an ungrateful mother, but how many jewellery boxes made out of old tissue boxes does a woman need?

If you want to truly impress your mum this Mothers Day (yes I mean you Bonnie, I know you're reading this), then pop down to Boots and buy her the Rainbow Eyes Reborn set. It's 25 eye colours in one set, yup 25...plus applicators and Shadowline which cleverly turns any eyeshadow into an eyeliner. Oh and it's half price for Mothers Day at only £15. I know you only get £2.50 pocket money, but I'm expecting Daddy to pay.

I do, however, love a handmade Mothers Day card.

Organic Surge: beauty with a conscience

I've noticed the Organic Surge range in Waitrose lately, but didn't pay it a huge amount of attention because a) I'm a skincare snob and only use fairly high end skincare products and b) at the time I didn't need any shower gel, hand soap etc. But what I didn't know about the brand, is that they have ethics.

Organic Surge has a mission to create a better life for the most under privileged people in Africa.  Through profits made from sales, Organic Surge has donated funds to help provide accommodation, food, medical services and education for people in genuine need.

Alan MacKenzie (pictured above), Founder of Organic Surge tells us: "We are proud that, in 2009, Organic Surge donations funded the Baby Care Unit in Kenya Children's Home in Nairobi. The Baby Care Unit cares for 48 sick or abandoned children, from newborns to two-year-olds and Organic Surge funded all costs for nursing care, food and staff for the full year."

Now I think that's pretty amazing. But what I'm truly amazed about is that they don't shout this message from the rooftops. I'm more likely to buy products if I genuinely believe that the company making them is trying to make the world a better place, not just line the pockets of their shareholders.

What's more, if you buy any three Organic Surge skincare products from Boots between now and 25th November 2010, you can get £10 back from Organic Surge just by keeping your receipt, filling out a form online, and sending the form and receipt to Organic Surge by the end of this year.

I haven't tried this range yet, but I'm going to. Because if a beauty company can be based on more than superficiality then that's something I want to be a part of.

UPDATE: I have now tried the Tropical Bergamot Hand & Nail Cream - gorgeous, feels like a high end products (& I have been using Creme De La Mer), and Spiced Lily foaming Bath - wonderfully relaxing and left my skin super soft.

Now here's a pic of the products so you know what to look out for when shopping in Boots, Waitrose, John Lewis or Ocado.
